The Saint Joseph's softball team's historic 2021 season came to a close at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Thursday. Hosting the A-10 postseason tournament for the first time in program history, the second seeded Hawks battled but ultimately fell to third seed Fordham, 7-3 in their opening game, and 8-0 in six innings to top seed George Washington in the nightcap at SJU Softball Field.
How It Happened
Game One
• Fordham took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Rachel Hubertus.
• Saint Joseph's cut the Ram's lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first as
Kirstin Cox scored on a RBI single by
Caela Abadie.
• A bases-loaded walk by Sarah Taffet extended Fordham's lead to 3-1 in the top of the second.
• A fielding error by the Hawks allowed Brianna Pinto to score later in the second to make it 4-1.
• A RBI single by Bailey Enoch and a RBI ground out by Bella Ayala extended the Rams' advantage to 6-1 to cap the four-run second.

Nicole Bondoc scored on a long foul fly out by
Molly Kapala to bring the Hawks to within 6-2 in the bottom of the third.
• Abadie drove
Sarah Ostaszewski home with a RBI single to make it 6-3 later in the third.
• Fordham added an insurance run in the fifth on a RBI single by Pinto.
Game Two
• A two-run double by Jenna Cone gave George Washington a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
• Cone came around to score to make it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly by Alessandra Ponce.
• A RBI single by Sidney Bloomfield sparked a four-run fourth inning for the Colonials.
• Sierra Lange put George Washington ahead 7-0 later in the bottom half of the third with a three-run double.
• The Colonials capped the game in the bottom of the sixth as Amber Lotz scored on a fielder's choice by Cone.
Historical Notes
• Along with hosting the A-10 Championship for the first time, Saint Joseph's posted a program record 19 conference wins this season.
• Individually, Abadie etched her name in the SJU record book multiple times as she finished her career first all-time in career home runs (35) and set single-season records for home runs (14) and RBI (56) this season.
• Additionally, Abadie ranks second all-time in career RBI (160) and tied for eighth in career hits (192).
• Ostaszewski finishes her SJU career first all-time in career doubles (53) and at-bats (688), fourth in career hits (214), and fifth in career runs (129) and career RBI (128), while her 44 runs this season are tied for the second most in a single year.
• Kapala caps her career third all-time in RBI (150), tied for third in career runs scored (133) and fifth in career hits (198).
• Cox's .426 batting average ranks fifth-best in a single-season at Saint Joseph's.

Amanda Herr finished the season with an 11-6 record as she allowed six earned runs in 1.1 innings.
