PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team opened its 2021 campaign on Thursday, falling to Marist, 1-0, on a hot and humid night at Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kyle Galloway put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute, turning at the top of the penalty area and firing past Lars Haavie for his first goal of the season.

• The match was chippy throughout, with the teams combining for 16 fouls in the first half.  SJU earned five corner kicks in the stanza, but could not convert, and the Red Foxes went into the break with the lead.

• Saint Joseph's carried the run of play in the second half, but four offside violations and a pair of saves by Sam Ilin kept the Hawks off the scoresheet.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• SJU held a 12-10 advantage in shots on the night and also took 11 corners to two for Marist.

• Ilin made four saves in the victory, as did Haavie in his collegiate debut.

The Hawks will host LIU on Sunday night.  Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
