MERION STATION, Pa. –
Nathan Perrone successfully defended his title on Sunday, winning the top singles flight once again at the 12th SJU Invitational, held at the SJU Tennis Complex.
Perrone made quick work of Delaware's James Wilkinson, defeating him for the second time in eight days, to claim the title with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Perrone won the top-flight crown at the 2019 edition of the tournament; 2020's event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is the second Hawk to win consecutive top-flight titles after
Tim Stierle '18 won the event in both 2016 and 2017.
Elsewhere,
Nassim Fenjiro was in action in the semifinals of the second flight consolation draw, falling to Lehigh's Jordan Paul, 8-4.
"It was another good weekend despite the injuries that made us have to pull out both doubles teams in Flight 1," assistant coach
Marc Pibernat said. "Huge congrats to Nate for winning Flight 1 playing very solid tennis throughout the weekend.. Alp [Sentay] also played good tennis and competed very well in both of his matches. We are looking forward to the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa next weekend."
Perrone, Sentay, and
Nickolas Frisk are scheduled to compete in the ITA All-American Championships, beginning on Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
