Men’s Soccer Drops Season Finale at Saint Louis, 1-0

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team closed the regular season on Saturday evening, a late goal undoing the Hawks as Saint Louis tallied a 1-0 victory on their senior night.

With results around the league, the Hawks fell just a point off from making the Atlantic 10 Tournament after having to tally a draw to move on to the postseason.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ariel Hadar produced the first shot of the contest in the 12th minute, forcing a save out of Carlos Tofern to his right side.
  • Luis Ludosan provided a moment of magic in goal, Saint Louis with a wonderful opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute. A loose ball found an attacking Billiken through traffic, unleashing from 12 yards out. The German keeper stretched out, making an incredible kick save to parry the ball out before eventually clearing the danger.
  • Ludosan made another sprawling save on the stroke of halftime after Saint Louis won a free kick just outside of the box. Diving to his right, Ludosan was able to stretch and come up with a save on the well struck attempt.
  • Fletcher Caponecchia had a brilliant chance on the other side of the break, towering over his defender to win a header. The shot sailed just wide of the post, the Hawks still searching for an opener.
  • The Billiken pressure kept mounting and eventually paid off, the hosts grabbing the lead in the 74th minute. A well swept cross across the face of goal gave Ludosan no chance as John Klein tucked the effort away.
  • The Hawks nearly grabbed an equalizer 10 minutes later as Blake Driehuis found himself one-on-one with the keeper. The sophomore looped his shot over the keeper, but a Saint Louis defender sprawled to save it off the goal line, striking the post and heading out of danger.
  • Last second attempts to grab the goal were swatted by the Billikens, who held out for a 1-0 win on their senior night.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Omry Perel finished with a team-high three shots, Mikkel Andersen and Alex Hartmann each adding two attempts.
  • The Hawks were outshot 17-12, but just narrowly edged in shots on goal (5-4).
  • Ludosan recorded four saves on the evening.
