PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team battled back in the second half but ultimately fell to 14th-ranked Delaware, 12-11, at Sweeney Field on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (1-1) grabbed control in the first quarter, scoring four of the game's first five goals.Â
Matt Bohmer scored twice while
Levi Anderson and
Mac McLaughlin got on the board as well.
• Delaware (3-0) used a 6-0 run to take a 7-4 lead with 5:32 to go in the second quarter as Clay Miller scored three times to put the visitors in front.
•
Carter Page stopped the bleeding with 3:55 to go in the half, but a goal from Cam Acchione sent the teams into halftime with the Blue Hens on top, 8-5.
• The Hawks rebounded to start the second half, scoring five times in the third quarter to take the lead.Â
Tucker Brown tallied a pair, with goals from Bohmer and UD's Miller sandwiched in between, to cut it to a 9-8 deficit before
Colin Reich scored with 3:31 to play in the frame to knot the game at nine apiece.
• After a Delaware penalty on the Reich goal gave the Hawks a man-up situation, SJU wasted no time in going in front as Brown scored his third of the quarter just 16 seconds after Reich's equalizer.
• Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Miller found the net with 1:28 to go in the stanza to send the game into the fourth quarter on level terms.
• A goal by Nick Jessen at the 12:14 mark put the Blue Hens ahead for good, before a key insurance goal by Mark Bieda doubled the lead. McLaughlin brought the Hawks within one with 2:28 to play, but a late attempt by Brown hit the post and the Blue Hens forced a turnover to seal it.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE
• Paul Reidy earned the win for Delaware between the pipes, making five saves in 18-plus minutes in relief of Matt Kilkeary, who made six.Â
Tucker Almany made 14 saves in defeat for SJU.

Zach Cole was 18-of-26 on faceoffs and had a game-high 12 ground balls.
• Bohmer added three assists to his three goals for a six-point afternoon, while Brown added a hat trick of his own, all in the third quarter. Miller led all goal scorers with five.
• The Hawks enjoyed a 37-35 advantage in shots and went 3-of-6 on man-up opportunities.
