The Saint Joseph's softball team swept its series-opening doubleheader versus George Mason on Saturday as the Hawks took the opener, 4-2, and dominated the Patriots in the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings at SJU Softball Field.
How It Happened • Game One
• Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as
Kayla Tauber scored from third off a ground ball by
Jessica Gaughan that was misplayed by the Patriots' shortstop.
•
Nicole Bondoc extended the Hawks' lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third as she scored from second base on a single to left field by
Jordan Hinkle.
• The Hawks pushed their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth as Tauber scored off a throwing error by George Mason off a bunt single by Bondoc.
• Bondoc came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Hinkle to extend St. Joe's advantage to 4-0.
• A two-run double by Maddy Myers in the top of the seventh brought the Patriots to within 4-2.
• Saint Joseph's, which turned four double plays in the opener, got a game-ending unassisted double play from
Carly Rybinski to seal the victory.

• Bondoc went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
• Tauber drew a pair of walks and scored twice.

Emily Siler was stellar in the circle as she allowed two earned runs on three hits, while striking out five to improve to 3-6 on the season.

Madison Fife scored on a RBI double by
Sarah Cancila to give St. Joe's a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
• The Hawks added to their lead later that inning as Rybinski scored from third on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Hinkle.

Taylor Marinelli capped a six-run third for the Hawks with a grand slam over the left field wall.
• Marinelli made it 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI single to left field that scored Bondoc.

Kaelin Cash followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored
Lauren Pscolka to cap the 8-0 win.
Inside The Boxscore • Game Two
• Marinelli was 2-for-3 with a grand slam, five runs driven in and a run scored.
• Cancila was 2-for-2 with a RBI.

Amanda Herr tossed an impressive shutout victory as she scattered three hits over 5.0 innings to go with three strike outs as she moved to 3-4 on the year.
