MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team opened the outdoor portion of its spring schedule in strong fashion on Tuesday, dismissing Rider by a 6-1 score at the SJU Tennis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Saint Joseph's (4-2) ran out to the early lead thanks to a sweep of the doubles flights.  Alex MacNeil and Nassim Fenjiro won at love in the third flight to get things started before Alp Sentay and Justus Agbo notched a 6-1 win in the second to secure the point.  Nathan Perrone and Nickolas Frisk finished off the sweep with a 6-3 win in the top flight.

• The Hawks made quick work of the Broncs (1-2) in singles play to secure the match victory.  Frisk was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in the second flight before Sentay dropped just three games in the third.  Perrone clinched the win with a first-flight triumph before Agbo and Fenjiro were winners in the fourth and fifth flights, respectively.

"It was important for the team to start the outdoor season with a solid performance like that despite the lack of outdoor practice we had to prepare for the match," head coach Marc Pibernat said.  "The team did an excellent job yesterday at practice and today during the match adapting to the outdoor conditions. We have a big week coming up for us where the team will fly down to Orlando to play three very competitive matches where we will need the best version of ourselves to remain on the right path that we are now on."

The Hawks will head to Orlando, Florida, for a trio of matches against IUPUI, North Dakota, and Southern Miss.
