AMHERST, Mass. – Lauren Figura tallied five goals in Friday's 10-9 upset of #18 Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals to advance to the A-10 Championship game on Sunday against top-seeded UMass at noon. The win marks the Hawks second-straight season in which they upset a nationally ranked Richmond team in the semifinals. Those two wins are the only over a nationally ranked opponent in program history.
Friday's win moves the Hawks to 13-6 overall this season. The 13 wins is a program record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- St. Joe's ripped off two-straight unassisted goals before Richmond called a timeout with 12:26 on the clock. The Spiders added two of their own before the horn for a tied game after one.
- The Hawks tallied five-straight goals up to the 4:41 mark of the second quarter before Richmond took a 2-1 margin to the end of the frame for an 8-4 lead.
- The Spiders cut into the deficit with a 3-1 margin in the third frame to sit behind 9-7.
- A 2-1 advantage of the initial 5:53 would move the score to 10-9 in favor of the Hawks with both defenses holding steady without allowing another score.
