Historic Season Comes to an End for Women’s Lacrosse in NCAA Tournament First Round

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The historic season for Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse came to an end Friday night with a 17-10 loss to Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rutgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead before a Hawks' timeout at the 9:41 mark. After the timeout, St. Joe's found the back of the net for the first time, followed by a 5-0 run by the Scarlet Knights up to the buzzer for an 8-1 lead.
  • The Hawks started to rally with back-to-back scores up to the 11:49 mark of the second frame. Rutgers answered with a pair of its own to push it to 10-3 with 5:59 left. A 3-1 spurt over a 3:26 span pulled the game within five at 11-6 before the Scarlet Knights tallied one final score for the period for a 12-6 game at the half.
  • It was an evenly matched third period with each team registering two goals apiece.
  • SJU opened the fourth quarter with a pair of goals up to the 12:14 mark to pull within four at 14-10. Rutgers would solidify the victory with a 3-0 margin to the final horn.
