Saint Joseph's Athletics Announces Restructuring of Cross Country and Track and Field Programs

6/24/2022 10:00:00 AM

Saint Joseph's Vice President and Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner has announced a restructuring of the Hawks' men's and women's cross country and track and field programs.

Under the reorganization, current men's head coach Mike Glavin will serve as director of men's and women's cross country and track and field, while Chris Tarello will remain on staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator; the Hawks will also add two new full-time assistant coaching positions to the programs.

Melody O'Reilly, who completed her seventh season as women's cross country and track and field head coach in 2021-22, will not return to the program as her position, along with two part-time assistant coach positions, will be eliminated. During O'Reilly's tenure, Saint Joseph's women's track and field earned a combined 20 medals at the Atlantic 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, while three Hawks earned A-10 Cross Country All-Conference accolades.

"Eliminating Melody's position was not an easy decision, but I believe the new structure is in the best interest of our student-athletes," said Bodensteiner. "I want to thank Melody for everything she did for St. Joe's athletics. She is a wonderful person who supported and developed her student-athletes in a manner consistent with our mission of 'caring for the whole person,' and I wish Mel and her family all the best."

Saint Joseph's will undertake a national search to fill the new assistant coaching positions in the coming weeks.
