Wujewitsch Grabs Equalizer for Men's Soccer at Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team came back from a first half deficit, salvaging a draw with a second half goal to split the spoils with Boston University in a 1-1 draw on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks opened the game on the front foot, a pair of efforts threatening the Terrier goal as Omry Perel narrowly missed the target from a strike outside the box. Chris Hunt added to the threat just moments later, getting on the end of a driven cross before his left footed attempt just crossed the face of the goal and past the wrong side of the right post.
  • Despite a 7-5 advantage after 45 minutes, the fifth and final attack of the opening half saw the hosts gain the advantage. Evan Morrison broke free off a set piece and rifled his effort from close off the crossbar, Neal Carlson bundling it over the line to give Boston a lead in the 43rd minute.
  • Unrelenting pressure in the opening half saw the Hawks equalize at the hour mark through the first collegiate strike from Philipp Wujewitsch. The freshman pushed up in the attack and Perel's shot parried off the keeper's gloves and fell to the feet of the rookie who knocked it into the back of the net.
  • The Terriers outshot the Hawks 3-2 in the final half hour, but none of the shots for either side threatened the goalkeeper as both teams would settle for a draw after 90 minutes.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Luis Ludosan made two saves on the night.
  • Wujewitsch tallied the first goal of the season for the Hawks and the first of his collegiate career. Perel was credited with an assist, his seventh in his second season on Hawk Hill.

  • The Hawks finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots on the night, a 5-3 tally in efforts on goal. St. Joe's also edged Boston in corner kicks, taking five compared to the three conceded.
