PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team held Sacred Heart to just one second half goal, using a 10-1 advantage in the final two quarters to win in a comfortable 17-5 win over the Pioneers on Saturday afternoon on Sweeney Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks grabbed the opening lead five minutes into the game, William King finding a crease through the middle of the field before firing past the Sacred Heart goalkeeper.
  • Levi Anderson added a second midway through the opening quarter to double the lead before Carter Page finished from close to counter a Sacred Heart goal, entering the second period at 3-1 in favor of the hosts.
  • Page tallied his second of the game in early stages of the second, finishing off a Colin Reich assist. Anderson also added his just 40 seconds later to take a 5-1 advantage.
  • The Pioneers scored three of the next five goals, but Ryan Doran and Matt Bohmer bookended the final eight and a half minutes of action in the opening half to give the Hawks a 7-4 lead at the break.
  • Just a minute into the third quarter, Sacred Heart cut the deficit to two goals before the Hawks turned the offense up.
  • St. Joe's scored the final six goals of the frame, started off by Page's hat trick to regain cushion. Tucker Brown followed suit with his first strike of the year before Anderson joined the ranks with his third of the afternoon to double up the Pioneers at 10-5. Bohmer, Jack McGorry and Reich closed off the frame with goals to push the Hawk lead to 13-5.
  • The Crimson and Gray piled on the goals on an extended 10-0 run, Mac McLaughlin and King getting back in on the action in the fourth quarter. Both Stephen Dwyer and freshman Collin Campbell recorded their first goals of the season in the span of 30 seconds, capping off the scoring on a successful start to the 2023 campaign with a 17-5 victory.
