Anderson Sets Program Record as Men’s Lacrosse Defeats St. John’s, 16-10

QUEENS, N.Y.  – Levi Anderson dominated on Saturday afternoon, setting a single-game program record with eight goals as the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team cruised to a 16-10 win over St. John's.

The win improves St. Joe's to 4-3 on the season, breaking a three-game losing streak where all three losses came by two or fewer goals. It also marked head coach Taylor Wray's 100th career victory at the helm of the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling early on to the Red Storm, Levi Anderson took it upon himself to go solo and equal the scoring at 1-1.
  • Anderson then turned provider to find Colin Reich for his first of the afternoon to level the scoring once more at 2-2.
  • The hosts scored two-straight and looked to take a lead into the first period, but the Hawks had other ideas.Ryan Doran went airborne and finished just outside of the crease with under a minute to play, and on the ensuing faceoff Zach Cole immediately sprinted down field and found Anderson, who fired home for his second of the day to level the score 4-4 after the first quarter.
  • Matt Bohmer got into the action in the opening minutes of the second, taking it solo before expertly finishing into the net to give the Hawks their first lead of the game. Another faceoff win from Cole triggered a quick Hawk attack as Jack McGorry found Anderson, who lasered an effort to the top corner before the St. John's goalkeeper could even react.
  • Bohmer tallied two goals in between another Anderson strike to increase the SJU run to seven-unanswered goals before the Red Storm answered once more before the end of the half, St. Joe's taking a 9-5 lead into the break.
  • St. John's started the third quarter with three-straight goals to cut the SJU lead to one, but again Anderson would call his number with his fifth goal of the season to extend the advantage.
  • The goal would spark three-straight goals by Anderson to end the third period for his seventh of the afternoon to give the Hawks a 12-8 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
  • The Crimson and Gray began the fourth quarter with a goal from Carter Page, assisted by none other than Anderson as the Hawks matched its largest lead of the afternoon at 13-8.
  • Two quick goals from the Red Storm looked to give the hosts one last hope of a comeback opportunity, but the door was slammed moments later as Ryan Doran fired home to give the Hawks another four-goal lead.
  • An empty net saw Bohmer add his easiest goal of the season with under two minutes to play, and Anderson would cap off his day with a record setting performance with 1:36 to go, firing home his program record eighth goal of the game to give the Hawks a 16-10 win on the road.

GAME NOTES
  • Levi Anderson had as many goal contributions as the Red Storm did as a team, scoring eight goals and adding two assists on his career-day. Entering the game with a high of four goals in a game, the Canadian attacker doubled that mark with his eight goals, setting a new program record after besting the previous mark of seven set on three separate occasions – last done in 2012.
  • Matt Bohmer tied his season-high with four goals of his own, while Ryan Doran added a muti-goal game with two.
  • Carter Page recorded his 19th game in a row with a goal after his fourth quarter strike, finishing with a goal and an assist.
  • Shane Ryan and Tommy Gross each made their debut in net for the Hawks, taking turns deputizing in goal. Gross finished with three saves, Ryan replacing him with a five-save, .714 save percentage.
  • Zach Cole was dominant from the X, winning 24-29 face off opportunities for a 82.8% clip.
  • The Hawks were outshot 46-38 on the day but were more efficient with a 32-18 advantage in shots on goal.
