GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's softball team continued play at the ECU Pirate Invitational on Saturday with a pair of games as the Hawks fell to host East Carolina, 5-4, in game one, and was tripped up by Maryland, 6-0, in the nightcap.
How It Happened - Game One
• After five scoreless innings, East Carolina broke the tie with a two-run double in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead.
• A sacrifice fly extended the Pirates' lead to 3-0 later in the sixth.
• Down to their final outs, the Hawks rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 advantage.
• A fielding error on a ball hit by
Kayla Tauber allowed
Karlee Smith and
Hailey Malito score to make it 3-2.

Payton Baxter followed with a two-run single that scored Tauber and
Sarah Cancila to put Saint Joseph's ahead 4-3.
• The Pirates battled back to tie it at 4-4 on a RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
• With the bases loaded, East Carolina's Logan Sutton hit a slow roller for a ground out, allowing Jocelyn Alonso to score the winning run from third.
Inside The Boxscore - Game One
• Cancila was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
• Baxter went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
• Malito was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
• Saint Joseph's starter
Emily Siler allowed three earned runs over 5.1 innings, while striking out four.

Taylor Trowbridge was the hard-luck loser as she allowed two earned runs over 1.0 innings.
How It Happened - Game Two
• Maryland took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a fielder's choice and RBI double.
• The Terps added a run in the second and two more in the third to extend their lead to 5-0.
• Maryland added its final run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to push ahead 6-0.
Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
• Malito was 2-for-2.
•  Cancila and Tauber were each 1-for-3
• St. Joe's starter Trowbridge moved to 2-4 on the season as she allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, over 1.1 innings.
