O’Neill Grabs Career Record Five Goals in Women’s Lacrosse 13-4 Win at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-4 win over the La Salle Explorers on Saturday afternoon, Emma O'Neill having a career day as her five goals led the Hawks to victory at McCarthy Stadium

St. Joe's moves to 6-6 on the season and 4-1 in conference play, while the Explorers drop their 11th straight, sitting at 0-5 in the Atlantic 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • O'Neill wasted no time, scoring her first of the day in the opening five minutes to give the Hawks the lead.
  • Just 30 seconds later, Maggie Davidson grabbed the first of her two goals on the afternoon after striking with a free-position shot.
  • After an Explorer goal to cut the Hawk lead to 2-1, Bonnie Yu wrapped up the first quarter with a free-position shot of her own to give the Hawks a two-goal lead at the end of the first frame.
  • Only a minute into the second period, O'Neill found the back of the net to capitalize on an extra-woman advantage for the Hawks. Only six minutes later, the senior would complete her hat trick to put SJU up 5-1.
  • Lisa Ross found Maggie Davidson for a fourth-straight Hawk goal before the Explorers were able to stop the run with just over six minutes left in the half.
  • O'Neill traded goals with La Salle's Ellen Stickney over the final five-and-a-half minutes of the half to give the Crimson and Gray a 7-3 lead headed into the intermission.
  • Coming out of the gates, Lauren Iorio capitalized on an increasing role over the season as the sophomore netted her fourth goal of the season to start a 3-0 Hawk run. O'Neill tallied her fifth of the game before Riley Evans would finish off the third quarter scoring with her first of the afternoon.
  • After giving up the opening goal in the fourth, the Hawks responded through Yu's second tally of the afternoon to all but seal the SJU victory.
  • Just days after playing her twin sister in the matchup against San Diego State, Mallory Jubb recorded another milestone after scoring her first goal for the Hawks with 6:46 remaining on the clock.
  • The senior turned provider in the closing seconds of the game, finding Alexa Capozzoli as the freshman gave the Hawks the final score of the 13-4 win.

  • Bonnie Yu continues a team-high 11-game goal streak with her two-goal tally on the afternoon.
