MERION STATION, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team rallied back from an early deficit to come away with a 4-3 win over Morgan State on Senior Day at the SJU Tennis Complex on Sunday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Morgan State took the lead out of the gates via wins in both doubles flights that played to completion.
 
• The visitors doubled their advantage through a win in the second flight, but the Hawks clawed back into the match after that.  Stow Weiss rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win in the first flight before Fabiana Tort-Umpierre finished off a 7-5, 6-1 win in the third to draw SJU level.
 
• Sophia Amato won her fifth-flight match, 7-6 (4), 6-2, to put the Hawks ahead, but the Bears notched a win in the fourth flight to equalize at 3-3.
 
• Ireland Amato dropped the first set of her sixth-flight match in a tiebreaker, but rallied to win the last three games of the second set to force a decisive third, where she rolled past her opponent for a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-1 win to secure the match for the Hawks.

"A very exciting Senior Day, and hats off to our seniors for pulling out the win over a stubborn Morgan State squad," head coach Ian Crookenden said.  "After our doubles start, when the occasion got the best of us, the squad settled down and played their game.
 
"Great effort from all, and we couldn't have asked for a better, more dependable player than Ireland to carry us through the pressure-packed final match with everything riding on the outcome.  I feel very good that we are ready for the Atlantic 10 challenges ahead."
 
UP NEXT
The Hawks will visit Richmond, George Mason, and George Washington over the weekend to close out the regular season.
