Women's Track and Field has Impressive Showing Across All Event Groups at the Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa.- The Saint Joseph's women's track and field team had an incredibly strong showing at the Widener Invitational across all event groups. The Hawks had multiple top ten all-time performances, event wins, and personal bests.

FRIDAY NIGHT TRACK EVENTS: 
  • The Crimson and Gray had a strong representation in the 5,000m meters with senior Sarah Myers leading a contingency of Hawks with ninth place finish in a time of 18:41.43. Sophomore Lauren Charboneau and junior Alyssa Brinsky both made their collegiate debut at this distance with very strong showings clocking times of 18:44.43 and 18:49.05 respectively. Junior Becca Millar was in next for the Hawks with a time of 18:51.43. Graduate student Gabriella Bamford won the first heat of this event recording a time of 19:34.72, which is close to a minute personal best in this event.
FRIDAY FIELD EVENTS:  
SATURDAY TRACK EVENTS:
  • Danielle Juliano led the Hawks with a huge personal best in the 1,500m. Juliano placed sixth overall in a time of 4:46.43. Also setting a new personal best was Katie Sparks, who placed eighth with a time 4:50.40. Graduate Student Shannon Addario was the third runner to leave this meet with a personal best time, knocking close to four seconds off her previous personal best to run a time of 5:14.78.
  • The 4x100m narrowly missed breaking the school record with a season-best time of 46.77s. The relay was comprised of Maris Rodriguez, Sydney Rose, Judith Walker, and Jacki Harding.
  • Anabella Chin continued to dominate in the hurdles, winning the 100m hurdles in a season best time of 14.57s.
  • Kimberly Johnson placed eighth overall in the 400m in a collegiate-best time of 58.98s.
  • Rose also dominated in the 100m, winning the race in a time of 12.11s. Walker also snuck into the top ten, placing eighth in a time of 12.53s.
  • Tess Crossan had herself a day in the 800m. Crossan placed second in a time of 2:11.08. With this time, the rookie now becomes the third-fastest 800m runner in school history, setting a personal best by three seconds and qualifying her for the ECAC Championships in this event. Ava Curry and Brooke Martin also had strong showings in this event, setting new collegiate-best times of 2:15.82 and 2:16.08, respectively.
  • Adding to her dominant performances of the day, Chin grabbed her second ECAC qualification of the season placing third in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:02.43. This time also moves Chin up to third all-time on the SJU top ten list.
  • Harding and Rose went first and second in the 200m with both athletes setting personal bests. Harding notched a time of 24.82s and Rose notched a time of 25.12s. Harding's time improves on her fourth place top ten all time rank while Rose's time now ranks her sixth overall. 
UP NEXT:
The Hawks have a busy week of competition with two meets on the calendar. Select Hawks will be be competing in the Penn Relays which will run from Thursday April 27th through Saturday April 29th.  The rest of the team will compete at the Lehigh Covert Classic on Saturday April 29th.
