MERION STATION, Pa. – Backed by strong results up and down the lineup, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team defeated Towson, 5-2, at the SJU Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Hawks took the early lead when Anna Kirk and Stow Weiss won at love in the first doubles flight to clinch the first point of the day.
 
• With Towson defaulting in the sixth flight, Sophia Amato was a straight-sets winner in the fifth to give the Hawks a commanding lead.
 
• After a pair of Tiger wins in the second and fourth flights, Weiss battled back from a set down in the first flight for the clinching victory.  Fabiana Tort-Umpierre followed with a three-set win of her own in the third flight to set the final margin.
 
HAWK TALK
"An excellent day for the Hawks," head coach Ian Crookenden said.  "After winning the doubles point, the squad played relaxed, competitive tennis.  A great team effort and a great start to our outdoor season; I couldn't be happier with this result."
