Women’s Lacrosse Cruise Past St. Bonaventure in Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals

RICHMOND, Va. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team eased past #6 St. Bonaventure in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, the offense exploding for 20 goals in a 20-8 victory on Cary Street Field.

The Hawks earned their 10th win of the season, moving to 10-8 on the year. The win marked the third-straight year and the sixth overall time that SJU has recorded 10+ wins under head coach Alex Kahoe. St. Bonaventure concludes its season at 6-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just over a minute ran off the clock before the Hawks opened the scoring, Atlantic 10 All-Rookie selection Kate Fuhrman opening the Hawks' account.
  • Proving to be a theme throughout the early stages of the first quarter, Fuhrman scored early and often as the freshman had tallied four in the opening seven minutes of the game.
  • On the other end of the media timeout, Maddie Yoder continued the Hawk run with her first strike of the day to give SJU a 5-0 lead.
  • A pair of Maggie Davidson strikes extended the advantage to 7-0, St. Bonaventure grabbing their opening goal of the game with one second left in the frame after capitalizing on a free position attempt.
  • Emma O'Neill found two early goals in the first four minutes of the second stanza, growing the Hawk lead to 9-1. After two Bonnies' goals from Fiona McGovern, O'Neill finished off her hat trick with six minutes remaining in the frame.
  • The newly crowned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Alexa Capozzoli, secured her first goal of the game after an early assist, weaving past her defender to find the net with just over nine minutes left in the third.
  • Atlantic 10 First Team All-Conference midfielder Bonnie Yu tallied two goals in under two minutes, triggering the running clock as the Hawks took a 15-4 lead with seven minutes remaining in the third.
  • Fuhrman matched her career-high set in the regular season finale against VCU with her fifth of the game, pushing the advantage to 16-4.
  • In just her second game of the season, Ellie Webb scored her second goal to close out the third quarter with the Hawks leading 17-5.
  • Webb doubled her tally before Capozzoli and Yu concluded the scoring, the Hawks coasting to a 20-8 quarterfinal victory.
