TEMPE, Ariz. – Sixteen members of the 2022-23 Saint Joseph's men's and women's tennis teams, including all 10 members of the women's team, have earned Scholar-Athlete honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced on Monday. In addition, both squads earned All-Academic Team recognition as well.
The entire women's roster was honored by the ITA for its academic achievement, with seniors
Ireland Amato,
Sophia Amato,
Emily Elliott,
Anna Kirk, and
Stow Weiss; juniors
Fabiana Tort-Umpierre and
Kirsten Wijnsema; sophomores
Charlotte Kordonowy and
Ana Ocasio; and freshman
Olivia Slate earning Scholar-Athlete accolades.
On the men's side, graduate students
Nassim Fenjiro,
Oscar Serra, and
Alejandro Vedri were joined on the list by sophomore
Eli Gan-Dy and freshmen
John Butler and
Inigo Diaz.
In order to be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must be a varsity letterwinner and achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average over the course of the academic year. To qualify for All-Academic Team status, a squad must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better for the year.
