Women’s Track And Field Opens Season at Penn Opener

PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's track and field team opened its season at the Penn Opener on Saturday afternoon inside The Ott Center.
 
TRACK EVENTS
  • Sammy Walz made her collegiate debut in the 60m prelims, narrowly missing out on a spot to the finals after her time of 7.86s fell .05s short of the top eight finishers. Olivia Binns set a PR in the event with a time of 7.93s, while Maya Adams also set a new personal best with a time of 8.07s.
  • Gemma Chevoor opened her collegiate career with a time of 1:40.76 in the 600m, Alexis Doherty timing in at 1:45.88.
  • The Hawks finished in back-to-back-to-back positions in the 1000m, taking 7th-8th-9th in the field. Tess Crossan led the charge with a 2:56.41 finish, while Alexis Westawski (3:01.58) and Samantha Korck (3:03.66) followed behind.
  • Kimberly Johnson crossed the line fastest of six Hawks in the 300m with a time of 41.87s. Jessica Rubio marginally finished behind Johnson, only .01 seconds separating her time of 41.88s. Maya Adams finished with a 42.43s finish, while Olivia Beddow followed up with a 42.88s time. Camille Bertin (45.21s) and Sydney Wynn (46.20s) rounded out the times.
  • The Hawks wrapped up the meet with the 4x400m relay, the team of Johnson, Crossan, Rubio and Walz finishing sixth with a time of 3:53.75.
 
FIELD EVENTS
  • Lily Ferguson finished just outside the top eight in the long jump, her best attempt (5.17m) coming on her final leap to take 10th.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Hawks are off for nearly a month, returning to Penn on January 11 for the Penn Opener.
