Women’s Lacrosse Drops Conference Game to UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell on Saturday afternoon in a 16-11 score to UMass on the road.
 
The Hawks drop to 3-4 (1-1 A-10) on the year while the Minutewomen improves to 3-4 (2-0 A-10) on the season.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks fell in a quick 2-0 deficit, but Lisa Ross got the visitors on the board to cut the lead to one.
  • Bonnie Yu responded from a UMass counter, but the hosts extended the advantage to 4-2 after the first 15 minutes.
  • After the Minutewomen grew the lead to three, Maddie Yoder responded with a hat trick over the final 13 minutes of the frame to notch the game at 5-5 at the halftime break.
  • On the other end of the break, Yoder added her fourth of the contest to once again level the score at 6-6.
  • Yu grabbed her second of the day to again answer a goal on the other end, but the hosts stayed on the attach with four consecutive goals before Kate Fuhrman cut the run with a strike in the closing stages of the third quarter.
  • Entering the final frame with a three-goal deficit, the Hawks saw the gap close to as little as two goals after Yu finished off her hat trick.
  • The late comeback bid was thwarted as UMass scored the next three goals to put the game out of reach, the Hawks falling 16-11 on the afternoon.
 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Maddie Yoder led the Hawks with five points on four goals and an assist, taking a team-high eight shots.
  • Bonnie Yu nearly doubled her total on the season with four goals to her tally on just six shots.
  • Lisa Ross added multiple strikes with two goals on two shots, Emma O'Neill adding a pair of assists to sit just three points shy of 100 on her career.
  • Jorden Concordia had nine saves on her afternoon, sitting five saves shy of entering the top three in SJU program history.
  • UMass held a 34-24 advantage in shots and a 25-19 margin in shots on goal.

St. Joe's returns home to Sweeney Field on Wednesday, March 20 when it hosts George Washington. First draw is set for 2 p.m.
