GREENVILLE, N.C. – Saint Joseph's held off Appalachian State, 3-2, in Saturday's nightcap of the Purple-Gold Invitational. The Hawks opened the day putting up a hard-fought effort against host East Carolina, but eventually fell to the Pirates, 4-0.
How It Happened - Game One
• East Carolina scored on a RBI single by Morgan Johnson in the bottom of the second.
• A fielding error by the Hawks allowed ECU to add to its lead with a run in the bottom of the third.
• Malea Rolle and Anna Sawyer added RBI singles in the fourth and fifth, respectively, to push East Carolina's lead to 4-0.
• Saint Joseph's threatened in both the sixth and seventh, but East Carolina worked out of the jam in both situations.

Sierra Fretz tied it for the Hawks in the top of the second with a RBI single that scored
Riley York.
• Fretz came around to score to put St. Joe's up 2-1 later in the second on a RBI single by Tauber.
• The Hawks extended their lead to 3-1 in the third as Fretz singled home York again.
• Kayt Houston brought Appalachian State to within 3-2 with a RBI ground out in the bottom of the fourth.
Inside The Boxscore - Game Two
• Fretz went 3-for-3.
• York was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Emily Siler picked up the win, allowing one earned run over 4.0 innings, while striking out two.
•
Taylor Trowbridge tossed 1.1 scoreless innings to wrap up the game, earning her first save of the year.
