Women’s Lacrosse Breezes Past St. Bonaventure, 16-7

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team continues its win streak, earning its fourth win in a row after cruising past St. Bonaventure in a 16-7 win on the road on Saturday afternoon.

St. Joe's continues to build on its longest win-streak of the season, moving to 8-5 on the year and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 action. St. Bonaventure falls to 3-3 in Atlantic 10 play and is 7-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After opening possessions from both sides were fruitless, Bonnie Yu opened the scoring by driving on her own and finishing from at a tight angle.
  • Two minutes later, Maddie Yoder was able to flash her effort past the Bonnies goalkeeper to double the advantage.
  • The Hawk offense remained effective as Lisa Ross flashed a pass to a cutting Kate Fuhrman, the sophomore opening her account on the afternoon.
  • St. Joe's headed into the media timeout with its fourth goal of the game, a different scorer for each as Emma O'Neill drove uncontested downhill before firing into the netting for a 4-0 lead after seven minutes.
  • After the hosts finally got on the board after 12 scoreless minutes to start the game, Sarah Groark answered from a free-position shot to give St. Joe's a 5-1 lead at the end of the first frame.
  • An efficient possession saw freshman Megan Sanelli toss the ball to an overlapping Ross as the graduate student made no mistake to open the second quarter scoring for the Hawks nearly six minutes into the frame.
  • St. Joe's extended the lead to six after the sophomore tandem of Alexa Capozzoli and Fuhrman connected to give Fuhrman her second goal of the day.
  • Capozzoli earned a goal of her own to round out the first half, her free-position goal giving St. Joe's an 8-2 lead at the break.
  • After the Bonnies started with a pair of goals to open the second half, Sarah Groark provided a crafty finish from a dish from Ross, faking high before tossing between the goalkeeper's legs to put the Hawks up 9-4.
  • Fuhrman took a page from her junior counterpart, also going between the legs off a pump fake to improve the SJU advantage to six goals with just over two minutes to play in the third.
  • On the other end of the quarter break, Ross started the scoring for the Hawks with her second of the game before Yoder dodged past her defender and finished from close range to push the lead to 12-4.
  • Producing her 11th save of the afternoon, Jorden Concordia quickly led a transition that led to Ross firing home on the counter to record her hat trick.
  • Yoder became the third Hawk to record a hat trick, the Hawks defense creating pressure in the St. Bonaventure defensive third, getting a quick turnover on the clear attempt before the junior slotted home after a dish from Yu.
  • O'Neill gave St. Joe's a 15-6 lead to build on the Hawk advantage, dodging left past her defender and sneaking her attempt into the back post from a tight angle.
  • Fuhrman's fourth of the afternoon ended the scoring for the Hawks as they walked off with their fourth win in a row in a 16-7 victory.
