HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alex Keener picked off a cross-field attempt to start the Hawk offense, Colin Reich converting on the other end of the field on the first possession of the game to open the scoring.
  • After the hosts rattled off three goals in under two minutes, the Hawks responded Levi Anderson fed Carter Page inside and the senior turned and fired for his first tally of the game.
  • St. Joe's added another less than two minutes later, Toron Eccleston equalizing the score after bullying his defender into a free left-handed low shot to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Another pair of Virginia goals gave the hosts a two-goal cushion, but Jesse Jason found the back of the net, denied the first time by the goalkeeper but grabbing his own ground ball and finishing only seconds later to halve the deficit.
  • Trailing 6-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Hawks started the second with three consecutive shots in seven seconds before Page finally broke through, again cutting the deficit to one.
  • The Cavaliers used a quick 3-0 run over a span of 1:19 to extend their advantage to 9-5 with over 12 minutes in the frame.
  • Jesse Jason fired low and fast past the goalkeeper from a tight angle, giving the Hawks just their second goal of the quarter to bring the game within 10-6.
  • Virginia added a goal to make it 11-6 headed into the break, following with two goals to start the second half to build a 13-6 lead.
  • Mark Watters stopped the run, firing from distance to look and cut the deficit. Anderson followed with a goal 30 seconds later, keeping a defender on his shoulder as he drove straight to the goal and finished.
  • Another three-goal burst for the Cavaliers gave the hosts a 16-8 advantage headed into the final frame.
  • Toron Eccleston grabbed an early goal for the Hawks, firing from close range on an extra-man opportunity.
  • Carter Page secured his hat trick moments later for his 43rd goal of the season to cut the lead to 16-10.
  • Colin Campbell responded to a Virginia goal, narrowing the margin back to 17-11 with his second goal of the year.
