MACON, Ga. – Spurred by a five-run first inning the Saint Joseph's softball team won its third game in a row to start the season with a 7-2 victory versus Florida A&M in its first game of the day at the Heart of Georgia Classic on Saturday. SJU was upended in the second game of the day, 6-0 against Austin Peay.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST FLORIDA A&M
  • The Hawks got the offense going from the first batter of the game, loading the bases on a single by Tauber and walks to Sarah Cancila and Malito.
  • An RBI groundout by Jenna Currie and a sac fly from Sierra Fretz made it 2-0 SJU and had Malito on third with two out.
  • Sinkus added to the offense with a double. York came up next and hit the first St. Joe's homer of the season to extend the lead to 5-0 after one frame.
  • In the second, it was some two-out magic as Cancila walked and stole second in front of a Malito single that plated the runner for a 6-0 advantage.
  • The final Saint Joseph's run of the game came in the third where with one out, Sinkus tripled, leading to a sac fly from York.
  • FAMU scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to create the final score.
  • Jenna Wagner picked up her first win of the season, tossing five innings of one-run ball, surrendering just three hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST AUSTIN PEAY
