NEWARK, Del. – The Saint Joseph's softball team got off to a hot start, but was upended by the Delaware Blue Hens 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
SJU applied the offensive pressure from the opening batter as
Kayla Tauber drew a walk.
Sarah Cancila tripled and
Hailey Malito singled, bringing home a combined two runs and forcing a pitching change for the Blue Hens before an out was recorded.
The game remained that way until the third when UD tied it before a four-run fifth for Delaware created the final score.
St, Joe's plays its home opener and begins conference play with a doubleheader against UMass on Saturday, March 15. First pitch in game one from the SJU Softball Field is scheduled for noon.
