Women’s Track Dominates at Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – Three individual and two relay wins highlighted a strong performance for the Saint Joseph's women's track team at the Danny Curran Invitational. The two-day meet hosted by Widener concluded action on Saturday.
 
TRACK RESULTS (FRIDAY)
  • In the lone event for the Hawks on Friday, Madison Buddenbohn opened the meet with a sixth-place performance in the 5000m with a time of 17:52.49. Grace Fennell placed 12th with a 18:18.32 time.
 
TRACK RESULTS (SATURDAY)
  • The women opened Saturday's action on the track in the 4x100m relay. The team of Olivia Binns, Maya Adams, Cecilia Abruzzo and Judith Walker surged to a first-place finish with a time of 47.80s in the race, besting West Chester by .12s.
  • St. Joe's continued the strong start as Majken Lutzen and Quinn O'Brien separated themselves to take first and second place in the 1500m. Lutzen's time of 4:32.51 earned her the top spot while O'Brien was five seconds faster than the remainder of the field to place second with a time of 4:33.25. Alexis Westawski finished as the third Hawk in the top four spots with an effort of 4:39.34 to place fourth. Sabrina Paz (4:48.60) and Maura Keane (4:50.01) finished just outside of a scoring finish, while Grace Rudder's time of 4:51.64 was 14th. Danika Slits and Carolyn Smith were only separated by .13s with times of 4:55.73 and 4:55.86 while Katie Sparks crossed the finish with a time of 4:56.51. The trio of Payton Kochanski (5:02.75), Danielle Juliano (5:02.95) and Carlyn Segrave-Daly (5:06.07) rounded out the busy event for the Hawks.
  • Another host of Hawks returned to the track in the 400m, making it three wins in the first three events as Tess Crossan narrowly edged out Moravian's Abby Giamoni for a first-place time of 56.53s in the 400m. Jessica Rubio added a third-place finish after setting a time of 57.10s. Four Hawks finished 7-10 as Alyssa Bloxton was the first of the quad to cross the line with a time of 59.30s. Stephanie Cristinzio was just .09s behind with a finish of 59.39s, while Olivia Beddow (59.77s) and Gemma Chevoor (59.93s) each yielded times under one minute. Samantha Korck placed 14th with a 1:01.14 effort as junior Alessandra Schuster recorded a 1:01.32 time to place 16th. Alexis Doherty (1:02.82), Sydney Wynn (1:03.02), Rylee Barnhart (1:03.54) and Sara Sherlock (1:03.68) all produced top-half finishes.
  • After success in the relay, Binns returned to the track for the 100m to take the fifth-fastest time on the afternoon with a 12.51s effort. Walker finished 14th after recording a 12.83s split.
  • The Hawks returned to winning ways as Ava Curry set a new facility record in the 800m with her time of 2:14.50 to lead the pack. Curry's time was over a second faster than the 84-runner field.
  • Camille Bertin finished just outside of a scoring finish, producing a time of 1:08.86s as the lone Hawk competing in the 400m hurdles.
  • Sammy Walz finished with the fastest time for the Hawks in the 200m, placing ninth with a 25.48s finish. Three Hawks finished within .06s of each other as Rubio (26.60s), Cristinzio (26.65s) and Abruzzo (26.66s) crossed back-to-back-to-back. Beddow finished with a time of 26.79s while Schuster (27.84s), Bertin (28.42s) and Barnhart (28.51s) concluded the action in the event.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Bloxton, Chevoor, Crossan and Korck set a facility record with a 3:54.86 time to take the top spot. Sparks, Curry, Keane and Juliano earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:10.72.

The Hawks head down to Fairfax, Va. to take part in the Dalton Ebanks Invitational, hosted by George Mason. The two-day meet starts on Friday, April 4.
