Softball Drops Heartbreaker in Atlantic 10 Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Saint Joseph's softball team saw its run in the Atlantic 10 Championship come to an end with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss against Saint Louis on Friday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sierra Fretz had a double and walked twice, driving in a pair of runs.
  • Hailey Malito and Meghan Sinkus each singled and scored a run.
  • Taylor Trowbridge finished the A-10 Championship 2-1 with a 1.84 ERA and two complete games.
  • SJU won multiple games in the conference tournament for the first time since 2019.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the first time in the tournament, the Hawks got on the board with the initial runs of the game, using a two-out rally. Malito and Sinkus both singled before Fretz split the gap for a double to clear the bases.
  • After being held off the board, the Billikens came back with a three-spot in the third to go up by a run.
  • St. Joe's rallied in the seventh, putting the tying run in scoring position in the seventh.
  • Trowbridge tossed her second complete game of the tournament, allowing just the third inning runs, while striking out four.

SEASON PERSPECTIVE
  • The Hawks won 30 for the 12th time in program history and the first time since 2013.
  • The 55 games are the second most ever in a season for SJU, trailing only 62 in 1999 and matching the mark of the 1997 squad.
  • Two players reached the 150-hit mark for their careers. Sarah Cancila connected for the mark on April 16 at Penn and Kayla Tauber picked up her milestone against Loyola Chicago on Wednesday.
  • Hailey Malito, Sierra Fretz and Meghan Sinkus each collected their 100th career hit.
  • St. Joe's had the A-10 Rookie of the Year for just the third time in program history and had multiple All-Atlantic 10 First Team members for the first time since 2021.
