PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team returned to Philadelphia on Monday for a match at Penn, falling 4-0 to the Quakers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Quakers took the lead with wins in the first and third doubles flights. In the second, freshmen
Elena Fleming and
June Tronhus earned a 7-5 win, the first doubles win for a Hawk duo against Penn in at least 20 years.
• Tronhus won the first set of her fourth-flight singles match as well, but the Quakers secured three wins to claim the overall match victory before play was halted.
HAWK TALK
"Today we played a talented Penn team," head coach
Jeff Puhan said. "We saw some individual success from our freshman duo,
June Tronhus and
Elena Fleming, at second doubles; then, with June winning the first set at fourth singles, 7-5, before the match was clinched. We have three freshmen in the starting lineup, so these are learning moments. I'm confident we will grow with every match."
