RICHMOND, Va. — The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team dropped its first Atlantic 10 contest on Saturday afternoon, falling to Richmond, 16-6, in a matchup of conference unbeatens.
Emma Yoder opened the scoring for Saint Joseph's, striking three-and-a-half minutes into the contest. Richmond responded with four straight goals before the Hawks closed the quarter with a late tally from
Kate Kaptrosky to cut the deficit to 4-2 after one.
The Spiders took control in the second quarter, opening the frame with another 4-0 run and outscoring the Hawks 7-1 in the period to build an 11-3 halftime advantage.
Richmond continued its momentum into the second half, extending the run to 6-0 and pushing the lead to as many as 11 midway through the third quarter.
Kate Fuhrman scored twice late in the frame to provide a spark, and
Megan Sanelli added a fourth-quarter goal, but the Hawks were unable to close the gap in the 16-6 defeat.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kate Fuhrman was the lone Hawk with multiple goals, finishing with two. She totaled 11 points on the week after her nine-point outing against George Washington.
- Emma Yoder, Megan Sanelli, Kate Kaptrosky and Riley Miller each added a goal.
- Sanelli also contributed two caused turnovers.
- Richmond held advantages in shots (28-22) and draw controls (13-10).
- The loss snapped an eight-game Atlantic 10 winning streak dating back to last season.
