PHILADELPHIA — Drexel used a pair of decisive runs to pull away from the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team, handing the Hawks a 17-11 loss on the road.
Both teams traded goals through the opening 10 minutes as
Megan Sanelli evened the score with a solo effort for the Hawks. The Dragons closed the first quarter with two goals in the final five minutes to take a 3-1 lead.
Alexa Capozzoli finished off a fastbreak opportunity early in the second to cut the deficit to one, and
Emma Yoder netted a pair over the final 10 minutes of the half to keep Saint Joseph's within striking distance. However, Drexel capitalized late with two goals in the final minute to carry a 7-4 advantage into halftime.
The Dragons extended their momentum into the third quarter, scoring the first three goals to cap a 5-0 run and build a 10-4 lead.
Devon Maillet halted the surge with a goal for the Hawks, but Drexel answered late and took a 12-6 lead into the final frame.
Drexel pushed its advantage to nine midway through the fourth with a 4-1 stretch. Saint Joseph's closed the contest on a 4-1 run of its own, highlighted by a hat trick from
Riley Bittinger, but the rally proved too late as the Hawks fell, 17-11.

- Liana Moli made nine saves in goal.
- Drexel outshot Saint Joseph's 35-23 and held a 26-17 edge in shots on goal. The Dragons also controlled the draw, 22-9.
