Kasi Loser hit her first career homerun and
Jules Scogna tossed an extra inning complete game as the Saint Joseph's softball team split a doubleheader with Fordham on Saturday.
BY THE NUMBERS
- In addition to Loser, Haley McMenamin also homered for the Hawks. McMenamin went deep in the first game and Loser connected in the second contest.
- The 8.0 innings tossed by Scogna are a career-high. It is the third extra inning complete game by an SJU pitcher this season.
- Julia Shearer drove in a pair of runs in the second game and now has 38 on the season, the most for a Sant Joseph's player since 2021.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE
- The Rams got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the second.
- St. Joe's got one of the runs back in the fourth. With one out, Elyssa Hasapis doubled. Two batters later, Riley York drove her home with a single up the middle.
- SJU got closer in the fifth as McMenamin connected for her third homer of the season, leading off the inning.
- Fordham pushed the lead out to 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth and cemented the final score with three in the sixth.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO
- Saint Joseph's got on the board right away in the first inning as Meghan Sinkus and Gianna Muhaw were both hit by a pitch. After a groundout put runners on second and third, Shearer singled through the middle, bringing both home for a 2-0 lead.
- The Rams scored one in the bottom of the inning.
- In the fifth, the Hawks padded the lead getting power from an unexpected source as Loser connected for her first career homerun. Fordham, however tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- Going into extra innings, Alivia Heers reached on an error to open the eighth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Morgan Lester sacrificed her to third. Two batters later, Meghan Sinkus drove in Heers for a 4-3 SJU lead.
- Scogna made it stand up, pitching an eight-inning complete game for her fifth win of the season. She allowed two earned runs and struck out five, four of them looking.
