Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Richmond in Atlantic 10 Championship Game

RICHMOND, Va. – A fourth-quarter push came up short as Saint Joseph's fell to Richmond, 8-6, in the Atlantic 10 Betterment Men's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday at Robins Stadium.
 
Richmond opened the scoring more than five minutes into the game and added another in the second quarter while holding the Hawks scoreless through the first 15 minutes.
 
Saint Joseph's broke through on a goal from Collin Campbell off a feed from Trae Ika to cut the deficit to one. Griffin Mallory followed with a wraparound finish to tie the game at 2-2 with 1:44 remaining in the half. Richmond responded with two goals in the final two minutes to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
 
After Richmond extended its lead early in the third quarter, Ben Dutton answered with his first goal of the game. Ika added a late goal to bring the Hawks within two, but the Spiders closed the quarter with a pair of goals to take an 8-4 advantage into the fourth.
 
Saint Joseph's mounted a late rally, beginning with a goal from Keaton Zavitz before Campbell struck again with 3:20 to play to cut the deficit to 8-6. The Hawks won the ensuing faceoff but were unable to convert, as Richmond held on to secure the title.
