Softball Closes Season in A-10 Semifinals

SAINT LOUISElyssa Hasapis hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, but the Saint Joseph's softball team saw its season come to a close with a 6-2 loss at the hands of the top-seeded Loyola Chicago Ramblers in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals on Friday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • It was Hasapis' second homer of the season. Both of them came in the last five games.
  • Julia Shearer, Meghan Sinkus and Riley York each came up with a hit for SJU.
  • St. Joe's pitching struck out seven Ramblers in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Loyola got on the board without the benefit of a hit in the second inning.
  • The Ramblers extended the lead with three runs in the fourth and added two more in the sixth.
  • Saint Joseph's got on the board with two outs in the sixth. Sinkus singled in front of Hasapis who drove one over the wall in left, cutting the gap to 6-2.
 
SEASON NOTES
  • St. Joe's won 25 or more games for the second year in a row. It is the first time the feat has been accomplished since 2016-2017 and just the 11th time in program history. It also won two games in the A-10 Championship in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2016 and 2017.
  • Grace Brown went 6-for-11 in the tournament with a double, three home runs and seven RBI. Her three home runs are the most in a single Atlantic 10 Championship since Sarah Yoos also hit three in 2016.
  • Several Hawks etched their names in the SJU record books. Meghan Sinkus ends her career with 51 stolen bases, third most in Hawks' history. Her 22 steals this season are also third in a single season.
  • Taylor Trowbridge struck out four batters in the game. She graduates with 279, 10th on the SJU career list.
  • Riley York had 24 RBI this season, giving her 95 for her career, 13th in program history.
  • Jules Scogna closed her career with 250 career innings pitched. Her 3.11 ERA during her four seasons is the third lowest mark in the last 10 years.
