Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten After 1-1 Draw at Mount St. Mary’s

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's remained unbeaten through its first three matches of the season, earning a 1-1 draw at Mount St. Mary's on Monday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks thought they had the opening goal in the 13th minute after breaking through the Mountaineers' defensive line. Sebastian Delacruz was found on the left side of the box and slotted his shot past the goalkeeper, but the referee ruled the play offside.
  • Conor Clair nearly opened the scoring three minutes later, sending a shot just high and wide of the target.
  • Saint Joseph's broke through in the 33rd minute through Rob Myrick. After a corner kick was cleared away, Herman Tveit-Reffsgaard slipped a pass to Myrick, who curled a 22-yard effort into the far-right corner to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
  • The Hawks held a 10-4 advantage in shots at halftime.
  • Mount St. Mary's equalized early in the second half after a series of passes found Christian Kyriacou at the top of the box. The Mountaineer attacker fired a low shot past an outstretched Alex Smith to level the match.
  • Both teams traded opportunities throughout the remainder of the match, but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested. Mount St. Mary's was reduced to 10 players after receiving a red card in the 83rd minute, but the Hawks were unable to find a game-winner as the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Saint Joseph's second consecutive draw by that score
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Myrick scored his first collegiate goal, becoming the third consecutive Hawk to record his first goal of the season.
  • Clair led the Hawks with five shots, including two on goal. Saint Joseph's outshot Mount St. Mary's, 18-13, but the Mountaineers held a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Marko Marić became the 10th Hawk to make his Saint Joseph's debut this season.
  • Smith registered a season-best five saves in the draw.
  • Saint Joseph's moved to 1-1-1 all-time against Mount St. Mary's.
  • The Hawks are unbeaten through their first three matches for the first time since 2002.
