UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's men's cross country team competed at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State's Cross Country Course on Friday morning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Gavin Mogck was first across the line for the Hawks in the 5.2-mile race, placing 16th out of 94 with a time of 26:05.8.  Ryan Cichocki, Ethan Fingerhut, and Brendan Hefferan finished in quick succession, taking 29th through 31st; Cichocki finished in 26:32.7, while Fingerhut and Hefferan clocked personal bests in the distance at 26:34.7 and 26:37.4, respectively.
 
• Jackson Kane rounded out the scorers for the Hawks in a personal-best 26:45.0, good for 36th place; Joey Lanci wasn't far behind in 43rd at a personal-best 27:05.5 while Matt Hoffman placed 49th in 27:16.4.
 
• A number of other Hawks took to the course on Friday as well, with Nathan Boyer finishing in 50th at 27:18.6 and Ian Romea in 51st at 27:25.9.  Evan McGregor ran a personal-best 27:30.0 to place 56th, while Logan Miller came in 59th with a 27:32.7.
 
• Eli Stoudt finished the race in 27:44.1, a new personal best, while Will Pardue clocked a 27:58.5 and Christian Napoli ran a personal-best 28:04.8.  Cooper Hey turned in a time of 28:11.9, while Jack Brannon ran a 29:10.4.
 
• As a team, the Hawks placed fourth out of eight teams. Syracuse took the top five spots in the race and eight of the top 10 for 15 points and a first-place finish, with Pitt in second at 55 and Penn State third with 94.  Saint Joseph's collected 123 points, edging past American in fifth with 134.  Bucknell was sixth with 149, while Buffalo and Monmouth rounded out the field in seventh and eighth with 194 and 249 points, respectively.
