A multi-sport standout that lettered in cross country, track and soccer... Excelled on the track when the Hawks dominated the IC4A as they won every IC4A team title, both indoor and outdoor... Gavaghan was Mid-Atlantic Conference Champion in the quarter mile in both 1957 and 1959... He also helped the mile relay to the 1957 title and placed fifth in the 600-yard run in the '57 IC4A indoor meet and then took sixth in the 440 yards in the outdoor championship... He was named team captain for the inaugural soccer team in 1958... He became one of the top goal scorers for the squad, leading the team to a 6-2 record... Inducted into the SJU Track Hall of Fame in 1976... Is a native of Philadelphia, Pa. and a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School.
