Jack McKinney

Biography

Was the head men's basketball coach and athletic director for eight years from 1966-67 through 1973-74, guiding SJU to a 144-77 record and five postseason appearances (4 NCAA, 1 NIT)... Currently ranks 5th on the all-time victories list by a coach... In the 1973-74 season he was named Eastern Coach of the Year... One of seven former Hawks to serve as a head coach in the NBA, winning a title with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1980 and Coach of the Year honors with Indiana in 1981... McKinney was inducted into the Saint Joseph's basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Philadelphia Big Five Hall of Fame in 1992... As a player he was a three-year varsity performer from 1954-57... He helped SJU to inaugural Big Five title and the school's first-ever postseason berth (NIT) in 1956... Also a jumper on the SJU men's track and field team, he won the Middle Atlantic Conference High Jump title in 1957 and helped the team to two MAC titles (1955, 1957)... Native of Chester, Pa. and graduate of St. James High School.
