Was the SJU rowing coach from 1960-73... Led SJU to six championships in Bergen Cup competition, as well as three President's Cup crowns... Led the varsity heavyweight eight to the finals of the Dad Vail Regatta in 12 of his 14 years, winning the cup in 1970 along with the Bratten Trophy awarded to the overall points champion... Six of his former Hawk rowers represented U.S. in international competition... Toland won gold and silver medals at the 1947 and 1955 Pan American Games... Was a member of the 1948 U.S. Olympic Rowing team and won national championships in every rowing event with the exception of the single sculls... Hails from Wyncote, Pa. and is a product of La Salle High School.
