PHILADELPHIA (4/26/04)- Saint Joseph's dominated the major awards for the Philadelphia Big 5 at the annual Herb Good Club dinner. The Hawks were named the Team of the Year and
Phil Martelli and
Jameer Nelson took home the top coach and player awards.
Delonte West and
Pat Carroll also joined the list of Hawk honorees.
Martelli won the Harry Litwack Award as the city's top coach, after guiding the Hawks to a 30-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight.
Nelson earned the Robert V. Geasey Award as the city's Most Valuable Player and earned All-Big 5 First Team honors for the fourth time in his career. The senior also earned his second straight Guy Rodgers Award as the top point guard in the second year that the award has been given.
West was named to the All-Big 5 First Team and received the Cy Kasselman Award for free throw accuracy. West made 124 of 139 free throws on the year (89.2 percent), which included a school-record streak of 37 straight.
Carroll was selected to the All-Big 5 Second Team as he averaged 10.1 points per game for the Hawks.
