HAWKS MOVE UP TO 13TH IN AP POLL

PHILADELPHIA, PA (11/17/03) - With its exciting 73-66 win over Gonzaga, the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team has moved up to 13th in the Associated Press Top 25, the highest ranking for the Hawks since the 2001-02 AP Preseason Poll. Led by 20 points and 10 assists from Jameer Nelson, and 16 points from Delonte West, the 17th-ranked Hawks upset 10th-ranked Gonzaga on November 14 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Madison Square Garden. That victory was also the 150th of coach Phil Martelli's nine-year career, improving his record to 150-97. The Hawks' current ranking is their highest since the 2001-02 team was rated eighth in the preseason. The win over Gonzaga marks the highest ranked team beaten by Saint Joseph's since the 62-59 win over #5 Temple on February 29, 2000 at the Palestra. Saint Joseph's returns to action next Tuesday, November 25 for a non-league game at Boston University. Game time is 7 p.m.
