SJU Hall of Famer Michael McDermott Wins The Golf Association of Philadelphia Middle-Amateur Championship

1997 SJU Grad Claims Title In Four-Hole Playoff

One of the nation's top amateur golfers, Mike McDermott is in his sixth season assisting the Saint Joseph's men's golf program. A 1997 Saint Joseph's grad, McDermott ranks as one of the finest players in school history. A three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, he helped SJU to third-place team finishes at the A-10 Championships in 1994 and 1995. Individually, he placed second at the Atlantic 10 Championship as a senior in 1997. He was the recipient of the University's Class of 1950 Award, which is presented annually to the top senior athlete. In 2003, McDermott advanced to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur Championship. He is the oldest of three brothers to play intercollegiate golf at Saint Joseph's.
