Athletics at Saint Joseph's University has grown exponentially over the past 50 years. Starting with a women's club basketball team filled with 13 Hawks in 1970-71, to the current department comprised of nine Division I women's programs, more than a dozen club programs and a diverse administration guiding St. Joe's into a prosperous future.

Along the way, more than 2,300 female student-athletes have donned the Crimson and Gray, all of whom have helped tell the rich tradition of Saint Joseph's Athletics.

Joining the Atlantic 10 in 1982, the Hawks have thrived in conference play with nearly 400 All-Conference selections, 26 Players of the Year, 20 Rookies of the Year and 10 Coaches of the Year.

NY Liberty v. Houston Comets
Pre-Season Game
The NY Liberty play the Houston Comets at Madison Square Garden in their only home pre-season game.  The Liberty won 62-47.

Saint Joseph's student-athletes have also gone on to have successful playing careers after graduation with four Hawks competing in the Olympics and more than 30 Hawks going on to play professionally. Additionally, St. Joe's has helped develop some of the top female leaders both in their fields of employment and in the community.

Representation and equality has been as mainstay in Saint Joseph's Athletics, from its first female coach and administrator in Ellen Ryan, to current Director of Athletics Jill Bodensteiner, and will continue to be.
