Biography

A legendary broadcaster established himself as one of the nation's most recognizable television voices in over five decades behind the microphone... He made his mark locally in radio and on television as news and sportscaster at WCAU in the 1950s... Whitaker was an Emmy Award winner (1977, 1991) who spent over two decades with CBS Sports (1961-82), before joining ABC Sports (1982-95)... He covered such signature events as the Super Bowl, the Summer and Winter Olympics, U.S. Open Tennis, all three legs of horse racing's Triple Crown and all four of golf's majors... He was inducted into the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1995 and the American Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 1997... Native of Philadelphia, Pa. and graduate of Northeast Catholic High School.
