He was a three-year varsity performer in Cross Country and track... Won the Middle Atlantic Conference overall championship as a junior (1950) and senior (1951), setting a course record in the time of 20:57... He also competed at 1951 NCAA Cross Country Championship... Cunningham helped win three straight MAC titles and a 23-2 dual meet record over his career... He won 12 individual cross country championships during his career... Was top runner for Saint Joseph's in every meet as a junior and senior... Ran sprints, quarter-mile and mile for Hawks track team... Enjoyed a tremendous running career following graduation competing with the Penn Athletic Club... In the 1955 Boston Marathon he placed 35th (22nd American).
