Richard Flanigan

Biography

He was a member of SJU's inaugural varsity team in 1959... He Rowed in Varsity 8 that placed third at the 1959 Dad Vail and then returned to finish second in 1960... Flanigan won the 1960 U.S. crown with Vesper Boat Club in an eight-oared boat and captured another U.S. Title in 1962 in a two-man shell... He represented the United States at the 1962 World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland and the 1963 Pan American Games in Sao Palo, Brazil... He sacrificed seat in U.S. gold medal winning 1964 Tokyo Olympic Crew to attend medical school... Captured over 40 U.S. and World Championships at the Master's Level... Native of Philadelphia, Pa. (West Catholic High School).
