Kelly Barnes concludes her second year as an assistant coach on Denise Roessler's staff in 2014. Barnes’ primary responsibility includes defensive personnel.
In two years of working with the Hawks’ defensive unit, Barnes has helped the Saint Joseph’s back line to significant decreases in shots allowed, shots on goal allowed, and goals allowed and an increase in the number of overall and per game caused turnovers. Under Barnes’ direction, the 2014 squad ranked second nationally in caused turnovers per game and fifth in ground balls per game to lead the Atlantic 10 in both categories.
A four-year varsity letterwinner and two-time captain for the Georgetown women's lacrosse team, Barnes received numerous accolades in her career as a Hoya, topped by Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American honors in her senior season. She was a two-time nominee for the Tewaaraton Watch List, the most prestigious award given to the NCAA Player of the Year, and received the Aimee Willard Award as the top collegiate player at the 2012 U.S. Lacrosse National Team tryouts.
The three-time Big-East Academic Honor Roll standout earned IWLCA Regional All-American honors and All-Big East First Team honors twice each and was one of 12 players named to the Big East All-Tournament Squad in 2011-12. Barnes was also selected to the 2010-11 All-Big East Second Team and earned 2009-10 Georgetown Denis Kanach Hoya Award honors. Barnes was also selected the 2008-09 Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year.
Barnes is a member of the 2012-14 U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team and is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration from Saint Joseph’s. Barnes graduated from Georgetown in 2012 with a dual degree in marketing and management.
