One of the most honored women's rowers at Saint Joseph's, Debbie Bateman joins the coaching staff in 2012-13. Bateman was a member of the Hawks' Varsity 8 that captured the title at the 2006 Dad Vail Regatta and competed at the Royal Henley Regatta. She also helped SJU take second in the Varsity 8 at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2007, earn silver in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships and win the Kelly Cup in 2007 and 2008. As a senior, she was named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team. She excelled in the classroom and was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Student-Athlete of the Year in 2008, as well as being named to the conference's All-Academic Team for two consecutive years. Bateman, a native of Longport, N.J., was selected to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team and was named the Philadelphia Inquirer's Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for women's rowing for two years in a row. Bateman graduated with her degree in marketing in 2008 and was honored with the Class of 1950 Award, given to the top graduating student-athlete.
