KINGSTON, R.I. - Due to heavy fog that settled in around Bill Beck Field, Friday's baseball game between Saint Joseph's and Rhode Island was suspended in the top of the sixth inning with the Rams leading, 8-2.

Saint Joseph's took the lead three batters into the game as Deon Stafford led off the first inning with a double and came in to score on a single by Matt Maul.

Mike Corin answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning to tie the game for Rhode Island. The Rams then took the lead in the second as Mike Sherburne tripled and scored on a groundout by Jordan Powell.

Corin doubled home another run in the third as his two-out hit brought home Tim Caputo, who had led off the frame with a single, to make it a 3-1 URI lead.

Immediately following the play, the game was halted for approximately a half hour due to a fog delay, the first of the day.

Rhode Island opened up a seven-run gap in the fifth, scoring five times on five hits, including a three-run home run by Martin Taveras.

The Hawks scored a run in the top of the sixth after Stafford's third double of the game and a single by John Brue set the table for a sacrifice fly by Maul to cut the deficit to 8-2.  After Stefan Kancylarz was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out, the game was delayed by fog once again.

The teams will pick things up on Saturday at noon with Kancylarz on first, Brue on second, and one out in the top of the sixth.  After the completion of the suspended contest, the Hawks and Rams will play the middle game of the weekend set.
